welcome to kyoto

the far left half of this shot with the dark green door is matt and sarah's place in kyotanabe city. they have a wicked little back garden that for some stupid reason i never took a picture of :(

once again we were amazed by the amount of stuff you can get in a vending machine in japan. these drink machines have hot and cold items. you can tell the cold ones because they have blue under there price, like the bottles of pocari sweat in the top row. in the bottom row we can see hot items marked by red under their tag. this vending machine had the standard hot coffee but those yellow cans are actually cans of corn!! i didn't know about the blue/red business first time i purchased a coffee and got a cold one. doh!

we spent some time around the palace and saw some amazing old temples and gardens.

one of my favorites was the shoko-ken tea house in the daitoku-ji temple. it was built by hosokawa tadaoki in about 1600 and is one of the most peaceful places i think i've been to.
